Physical Security at the Mid-America Program Service Center (Limited Distribution) (A-07-06-16095)

Our objectives were to determine (1) actions the Social Security Administration (SSA) has taken to address physical security vulnerabilities identified in previous reviews and (2) additional steps SSA can take to enhance physical security at the Mid-America Program Service Center.

We are encouraged to learn that SSA has taken steps to meet minimum physical security standards at the Bolling Federal Building and to address some physical security concerns identified in previous reviews. However, we identified weaknesses in existing controls and operations that we believe reduce the overall effectiveness of the security provided. By addressing these weaknesses, SSA has the opportunity to take additional steps to reduce the risk of exposure to individuals who may attempt to commit crimes against Federal employees and property and to enhance physical security.
