Physical Security at the Southeastern Program Service Center (Limited Distribution) (A-08-06-26011)

Our objectives were to determine what (1) actions the Social Security Administration (SSA) has taken to address physical security vulnerabilities identified in previous reviews and (2) additional steps SSA can take to enhance physical security at the Southeastern Program Service Center (SEPSC).

We are encouraged to learn that the SEPSC has taken steps to meet minimum physical security standards for Federal buildings and to address some physical security concerns previously identified. However, we identified weaknesses in existing controls and operations that we believe reduce the overall effectiveness of the security provided at the SEPSC. We believe the SEPSC has the opportunity to take additional steps to reduce its risk of exposure to individuals who may attempt to commit crimes against employees and property and to enhance physical security.
