The objective of our review was to evaluate the Social Security Administration's (SSA) oversight of the PSI Group, Inc., Presort Mail Contract - Contract # GS-25F-0010M. Specifically, we determined whether SSA's mail was properly secured and sorted within specified timeframes and at the agreed upon price.

We recommended SSA: (1) ensure PSI complies with all contract requirements; (2) implement and document additional internal controls regarding SSA's mail counts provided to PSI; and (3) develop a process to reconcile and document variances between SSA's mail counts provided to PSI and PSI's machine counts. SSA agreed with our recommendations and has already initiated corrective action.
